Thanks to their historical and cultural heritage, which dates centuries back, both the areas of Megara and Eleusis have a series of sights to see while visiting the Viticultural Manor.
For your journey in the wider area, we chose some highlights that we propose unreservedly!
Megara:
- Theagenis Fountain built by the tyrant Theagenis at the beginning of the 5th century BC; it is the largest and best preserved aqueduct in Greece.
- The Monastery of Saint John the Forerunner Makrynos, founded during the Byzantine times, it played later an important role during the 1821 Greek War of Independence.
- The Archaeological Museum of Megara; its collection includes findings from the excavations in the area, which date back to the period from the 8th century BC to the 2nd century AC.
Eleusis:
- The Archaeological Site, a remarkable place which depicts the importance of the ancient settlement of Eleusis. The Sacred Court, the Temple of Artemis Propylaea, the Greater Propylaea, the Lesser Propylaea, the Telesterion, the Triumphal Arches, the Callichoron Well, the Ploutoneion and the Mycenaean Megaron are always there to initiate you into the history of the area.
- The Archaeological Museum, the building with the tiled roof within the Archaeological Site has a vast collection of important findings to display from the Sanctuary of Demeter and the Western Cemetery of the ancient settlement.
